Permission to Succeed and Success Anorexia

Permission to Succeed! Noah's Path to Discovering Success. People often wonder, "Noah, how did you create 'Permission to Succeed'?" It all started back on October 20, 1997, when I was a religious studies major at a small liberal arts college in Massachusetts.

Part 1: The Aha Moment

That particular night, I made an intriguing choice—to attend a seminar on eating disorders. Given my background as a former professional ballet dancer, I have encountered numerous individuals who battled with eating disorders. My curiosity led me to listen closely to what the speaker had to say.

As the speaker delved into the subject, an epiphany hit me like a ton of bricks. It became glaringly apparent that there was something vital missing in my life, something I had been depriving myself of—success.

However, this wasn't the typical starvation of food; it was the starvation of success.

Making a Promise

That night, I returned home, looked up to the heavens, and made a solemn promise to a higher power. I said, "Okay God, I may not understand why you chose me, but I pledge never to stop until I've shared this revelation with as many people as possible during my time on this Earth."

With that resolve, I sat down at my trusty Apple MacIntosh® computer, and my fingers began dancing across the keyboard. Fourteen days later, I had penned my first book, titled "Permission to Succeed: Unlocking The Mystery of Success Anorexia."

Facing a Challenge

Now, picture this: a 30-year-old religious studies major with no money, no connections, no industry knowledge, no marketing background, no website, no email list, no sales experience, no business skills, and no mentor. It's safe to say, I was staring at a daunting challenge.

The Digital Wilderness

It's essential to note that this was 1997, a time long before the dawn of Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter. The concept of "social media" was yet to exist, and the term "blogging" hadn't even crossed anyone's mind. We were still dealing with the age of dial-up internet.

In essence, I had no money, no experience, and absolutely no business skills whatsoever. How would you react if you found yourself in my shoes? Share your thoughts in the comments—I promise to read every word.

Part 2: Now What?

So there I was, having stumbled upon the notion of "success anorexia" in 1997, realizing I was starving myself of success. I had also just written my first book, "Permission to Succeed: Unlocking The Mystery of Success Anorexia," in a mere 14 days.

Discovering the Why

One of the principles I've always shared with my clients is the significance of identifying their "Why-To's" of Success. It's a simple concept: when you discover the "Why," you inevitably uncover the "Way."

A Leap of Faith

With this newfound wisdom, I decided to take a risk. Armed with a stack of pages that held the potential to change lives, I ventured to my local print shop to bring my book to life.

Bear in mind, this was the era long before Kindle books and the term "print-on-demand" had yet to be coined. I asked the print shop worker, "How do you print a book?" And then, the crucial question, "What's the most affordable way?"

Remember, I had no funds to spare. The answer was "tape bound," a process that bound the book with a piece of tape. Tape. Bound. I enthusiastically agreed.

The Reality Check

A few days later, I walked out of that print shop with a box filled with 8 1/2 by 11 books proudly displaying the title: "Permission to Succeed: Unlocking The Mystery of Success Anorexia." Admittedly, it had one of the world's ugliest book covers. If you're curious, just ask, and I might show you a picture.

However, my elation over having my first book printed was short-lived. It was replaced by a sinking feeling that can best be described as "Oh, spit." The reason? I had absolutely no idea how to sell these books.

I had invested every dime I had into printing these books. Now, what was the next step?

Part 3: The 10 Words That Changed My Life

I found myself in possession of a stack of books, a burning desire to share my message, but zero knowledge about selling them. What would you do in my shoes?

Persistence Pays Off

I embarked on a journey to local bookstores, which were still very much a thing back then. I approached them and asked if they would carry my book. Naturally, many said no, but to my astonishment, some agreed.

A Life-Altering Encounter

Then, one day, I stumbled upon a newspaper article announcing an appearance by Jack Canfield, co-author of "Chicken Soup for the Soul," at the University of Massachusetts, just a short drive from where I lived.

Through sheer determination, I secured a face-to-face meeting with Jack and presented my self-published book. By then, I had received testimonials from readers who claimed that my book had transformed their lives.

Jack Canfield, in his gracious manner, examined my (admittedly very ugly) book, and then he said ten words that forever altered the course of my life, "Yes, this looks good. I'll send it to my publisher."

A Milestone Achieved

Eight weeks later, I received a call from the President of Health Communications, the publisher of "Chicken Soup for the Soul." They offered me my first publishing contract. In August 1999, "Permission to Succeed ®: Success Anorexia" was officially published.

And that's how the global "Permission to Succeed®" movement was born. Since those modest beginnings, over 250,000 copies of my books have been sold in more than 17 languages. Countless lives and businesses worldwide have transformed from struggling to remarkable success using my methods.

In fact, my coaching clients have collectively generated over half a BILLION dollars in sales through my guidance.

Conclusion

Today, we find ourselves with fewer than 250 copies left of the 20th-anniversary edition of my book. I personally pledge to sign each copy until we run out. And here's the kicker—it's absolutely FREE; you only need to cover the shipping.

This isn't a ploy to create false scarcity; we genuinely have fewer than 250 copies remaining. If you want a personally autographed copy of the book that kickstarted a global movement, act swiftly before it disappears.
