“I learned the biggest lesson of my life under 276 feet of water in March 1945.

I was one of 88 men aboard the submarine Baya SS 318.

We had discovered by radar that a small Japanese convoy was coming our way. We fired 3 torpedoes but missed.

We were getting ready to attack again when the mine layer in the convoy turned and came directly at us. We went down to 150 feet to avoid detection.

3 minutes later, all hell broke loose…”
