The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey changed my life.
Dr. Covey’s book on the seven habits has become a source of inspiration to millions around the world who have aimed for personal growth and development.
However, for me, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People was very personal.
Back in the early 90’s, I was at a low point in my life – having moved from Los Angeles to back to my home state of Maine after trying and failing to become a movie star.
I was wandering in the bookstore of the church I was attending, when all of a sudden – I swear I’m not making this up – a book fell off the shelf right next to my feet.
I looked down and saw the title…
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey.
That sounds interesting, I thought. I’d certainly like to know the habits that highly effective people do.
Now this was an AUDIO book – back when audio books were on cassette. (For those of you younger than 30, Google the word “cassette.”)
I put the first tape in my car’s cassette tape player. (Yes, I know I just keep dating myself with these references.)
By the time I got home, I was in tears…
Because in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Stephen Covey was describing my life in REVERSE…
You see, that was the first time I realized that I had been doing the 7 Habits of Highly IN-Effective People my whole life.
I listened to The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People four times in a row so I could understand it better.
And then I apologized to my mother and father for being so selfish.
The concepts in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People are applicable to almost all circumstances and situations, and can help you move from your present reality to a better future state.
I will dive into each of the 7 Habits in another article.
