Why is it so important to learn how to let go in your life?

How to let go of someone... how to let go of the past... how to let go of anger... how to let go of things... or how to let go of a relationship?

"To err is human, to forgive divine” is a quote from Alexander Pope's “Essay on Criticism.”

The simple truth is, every person makes mistakes in our life. Even though every situation is different, the pain each person feels is universal.

We hurt, we feel the pain of each situation where we need to learn how to let go.

Sometimes our minds become clouded with fear, with resentment, with anger, with bitterness.

We feel stuck. We feel like we don't have a choice.

We give up control, or we feel the need to control every person and every thing in our lives. Your life becomes a mirror of that negative process.

Every time we think about the past, the hurt comes to mind and we relive the experience over and over again -- even if you're with a different person, you find yourself holding on without moving forward.

Which means we live in regret, in the negative story we've built, feeling like we'll never be free.

We focus on the past, which makes it hard to move forward and hard to be positive -- because the past hurts too much.

We have relationships in business or our personal lives that don't work out the way that we want.

But sometimes all it takes is a decision - a decision to focus on what's healthy, a decision to letgo, a decision to practice forgiveness, to stop blaming, to find pleasure again and move forward

At those times in life, it's very important to learn how to let go -- especially in these trying times when "stuff" comes up in your life.

Because of the current pandemic, people are losing jobs, losing friends, losing their partners or people close to them. And oftentimes, the person left behind lives in regret -- full of "coulda, shoulda, woulda".

Therefore, here are our Top 10 Tips to help you discover the power of letting go and how to let go.

How To Let Go of The Past

 Tip #2: Forgive Yourself

how to let go forgive yourself

When we look at how to let go of the past, forgiving yourself can be very difficult for every person.

We often feel that we can't let go and forgive when we've made mistakes.

Yet when you hold on to the past, it's hard to experience happiness in whatever situation you're in.

For example, I've made a lot of money and lost a lot of money, made a lot and lost a lot, many many times over.

Looking at the power of letting go, to be able to forgive yourself can be hard, because it’s often harder to forgive yourself than to forgive other people -- even people who have hurt us.

For instance, how to let go of the past for you might mean letting go of a divorce -- especially if there are children involved. You might beat yourself up because of what was said or what wasn't said, what you think you did wrong and the wrong that was done to you.

When you start to let go of the past by loving yourself and forgiving yourself, becoming a friend and letting go, you can start to remember the happy times, the precious moments you shared together. Forgetting and focusing on how to let go of the past means that the hurt you experienced will lessen over time.

How To Let Go of Anger

Tip #3: Practice honest journaling. Don’t censor your negative emotions.

How to let go by journaling

Looking at how to let go of anger, journaling is a very important activity on how to let go of anger so you can express honest emotions, rid yourself of anger, and stop replaying the same thoughts over and over in your mind.

You can use a journal to become honest with yourself. Because many times we censor ourselves when talking to other, we censor our emotions in public and on social media, because we want to pretend that everything is happy and jolly and perfect 100% of the time.

Well of course that's not true for anybody, no matter who they seem to be on social media.

Therefore, when you're by yourself, when you're meditating or in those quiet times, you want to write down what's really going on with you and don't censor yourself.

Don't feel that you have to post your journal in public, because when letting go of anger, you don't have to share it for public consumption.

Your journal is a tool for you to get in touch with those feelings that sometimes are uncomfortable about how to let go, so you can let go of that toxic environment in your emotions.

How To Let Go of Someone You Love

Tip #4 : Write the emotional attachment on a piece of paper. Go to fire pit and watch it burn.

How to let go with Firepit exercise How to let go of someone you love means letting go of those painful emotions that stop you from living in the moment.

This important step means you let go of the pain, stop giving energy to the past, care for yourself in the present, to be good to your future.

Perhaps there are painful memories that keep you stuck or angry. Perhaps there's a chapter in your life you'd like to forget but can't. Maybe the outcome wasn't what you wanted. Maybe your actions in the past contributed to the anxiety you're feeling in the present, which means you can't feel the freedom you want.

My advice is to write that down on a piece of paper and then burn that paper. Just make sure it's a safe place -- for example, by the sink or your fireplace or someplace like that.

For example, I was watching the 10-part biography of the Chicago Bulls in the 90’s called "The Last Dance" talking about Michael Jordan and Phil Jackson, the brilliant coach.

Phil Jackson had the Chicago Bulls do this very exercise: write your emotions on a piece of paper and burn them. The players said it was very powerful experience and gave them a sense of closure, letting go of professional conflicts, and it was a very empowering journey. And it only takes minutes, instead of weeks or months!

How To Let Go of Things

Tip #5: Engage Your Loving Mirrors

I've been teaching for decades about engaging your loving mirrors.  What's a loving mirror so I talk about that in my books like Power Habits® the new science for making success automatic, this book came out just a little bit ago so you can get that at and also just go to and learn more about my loving mirror technique.

A loving mirror is someone who believes in you before you believe in yourself and every successful person that I've ever interviewed over 200 millionaires multi-millionaires every single one of them had someone believe in them first so we want to have that too you want to have someone who believes in you have that loving  mirror and make sure you engage them the way that I say that is meaning don't shut yourself off you know when we get into that regret when we get into beating ourselves up to get into that state sometimes we shut down and don't talk we're not truthful with people even the ones closest to us and that's the time when you have to fight that you literally have to go too and I call it engaging your loving mirrors.

Your loving mirrors are going to reflect back to you and let you see the the full picture of yourself sometimes more clearly than you can see yourself and you can also be the loving mirror reflecting back to somebody else and help them how to let go.

How To Let Go of a Relationship

Tip #6: Read a good book. Remember that everyone experiences loss.

How to let go read a good book I’m a reader, I've been reading since I was a little kid I love going to bookstores and libraries of course now sometimes you can't go to a bookstore or a library but just find a good book.

It's just sometimes good to remember that other people have experienced loss we all have every human being experiences loss in their lifetimes you know we've had a family member who passed away from the virus I had a dear friend who just lost his life and so you know everybody experiences loss and that's sometimes it's hard to remember that when you're going through it yourself.  You’re like “oh I’m the only one”,  of course you're not the only one so sometimes curling up with a good book can just help you remember that.

Remember hey we've all gone through this no matter who you are reflect on what you've learned from the experience and what you can do differently in the future. That's part of all these exercises we're doing we all make mistakes we all do things that we regret that we just wish we could take back and sometimes you of course can't do that so what did you learn right how have you how have you changed so write that down.

How To Let Go of Resentment

Tip #7: Reflect on what you learned from the experience and what you can do differently in the future.

When you make a mistake, it's hard to let go of the regret from that mistake.

However, one of the tips to let go and move forward is to write down what you learned from the experience. That way you can realize that that mistake actually helped you make better decisions in the future.

For example, I used to try and figure things out on my own. Then I realized that I was making a lot of mistakes that a mentor or coach could help me with. So I hired a business coach who had more experience than me. I followed his instructions and ended up making a lot of money much faster than if I would have tried to figure it out on my own.

If you'd like to get results faster and easier in your life or business, I can help.

How To Let Go and Let God

Tip #8: Use proper breathing techniques.

Breath work is important because when we get stressed or upset, we often forget to breathe properly.

The right way to breathe is: In through the nose, out through the mouth.

The best way to breathe is to hold your breath in for 3-5 seconds, then exhale through your mouth.

This will instantly calm you and make you more centered.

How To Let Go of Control

Tip #9: Spend more time in nature.

Go out for a walk in nature.

How to let go Numerous scientific studies have shown that spending time in nature calms us down and lowers our stress level.

Babette and I make time every day to walk outside in a park or by a lake near our home.

Simply getting outside and away from your computer can do wonders for your mental and emotional health.

Just remember to turn off your phone!

How To Let Go of Fear

Tip #10: Talk to yourself like you would talk to a friend. Appreciate the person you see in the mirror.

For most of my life, I spoke to myself in a very mean way:

"How could you be so stupid! What an idiot!" ... and so on.

Finally, I realized that I would never say things like that to my worst enemy, let alone to a friend.

And of course, that nasty language was reflected in my mental and emotional state.

To let go and move forward, you have to speak to yourself like you would a friend.

What would you say to a friend who is going through what you're going through?

Try saying that instead of the head trash messages that may be more familiar to you.

Let It Go Quotes

In closing, I want to give you one of my favorite Let It Go Quotes:

Autobiography in Five Short Chapters

By Portia Nelson

I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
I fall in.
I am lost ... I am helpless.
It isn't my fault.
It takes me forever to find a way out.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in the same place
but, it isn't my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in ... it's a habit.
my eyes are open
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

I walk down another street.
